A dense, deciduous shrub up to 7’H with smooth canes growing in large clumps which spread by underground rhizomes. Leaves are palmate and soft and fuzzy in texture. White flowers with yellow stamens produce a tart, edible composite fruit that ripen to a bright red in mid to late summer.
