Low-growing, spreading shrub 1-3’H x 3’W. Magenta-colored flowers are in clustered, whorled, inflorescence 6-12” long blooming March to May. Spreads by rhizomes forming colonies up to 4’ wide. Bright green, oblong to almost arrowhead-shaped leaves are covered with soft hairs; highly aromatic. Plant in dry shaded or partly shaded areas, including under oak trees. Very drought tolerant, and after the first year, can make it through the summer without supplementary water, tending to go semi-deciduous without occasional irrigation. Will stay green with summer water once or twice a month.
